Career
Adam first rose to fame after appearing on the reality competition show, American Idol, in 2008. His ability to transform any song he was given into uniquely his own, his vocal range, and his eccentric performing style (as well as conservative American viewers' speculation surrounding his sexuality) made him a household name.
Fearing the way American Idol contestants of the past tended to fade into obscurity, Adam worked to put out an album within the next year, 2010. With the release of his first official album, For Your Entertainment, controversy surrounded Adam, leading to his official coming out as gay in an interview. The way he handled the American media's homophobia cemented his role as a trailblazing queer icon as well as a well-known pop musician.
A few years later in 2012, Adam released his second album, Trespassing This album was a celebration of his own queerness, and also the first album by an openly gay artist to top the U.S. Billboard chart. Later that year, Adam embarked on his first tour with the legendary rock band, Queen, after catching their attention by auditioning with Bohemian Rhapsody during his American Idol run. He has been touring with them ever since.
His third album The Original High, was released in 2015. It delved deep into Adam's emotions and past relationships, moreso than any of his albums in the past. It received much mainstream praise, with Ghost Town becoming one of his biggest singles.
His fourth album, Velvet, was released a couple days after the worldwide pandemic and subsequent quarantine were announced in 2020. As a result, most of the press and tour dates for this album were cancelled. This album expressed a celebration of his roots as a musician with an old school, classic rock sound. It also was a celebration of living as his most authentic self, finding his power, and embracing connections.
Adam released his album of covers in 2023. High Drama is a celebration of his theatricality and his queerness. This album showcases his innate ability to reimagine songs in a completely different style/genre from the original, on a grand scale that certainly pleased long-time American Idol fans who were first introduced to this ability over a decade prior.
